Outside-In

I have learnt to look

from the outside

at my face, body, chest

and go further inward,

to my lungs, my bones and blood,

my heart and then beyond

into the cells, the atoms,

the space from which they came;

A distant element forged

in the silent heaven,

The remnant of a sun,

A spark of life,

A distant memory

firing across the synapses of space.

Of this, I am conscious and

find myself looking from within

And look at life from the outside-in.
